As Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) celebrates its 50th anniversary of serving Victorian communities on Wednesday 5 March, the organisation is excited to unveil a showreel reflecting on the immense efforts of our volunteers from over the past 50 years.

Born out of the former Civil Defence, which was established in 1950 as a volunteer-based organisation which could be quickly mobilised to support communities in the event of war, ‘State Emergency Service’ was adopted in 1975 to conform with other states, and the organisation today has grown to include more than 150 volunteer units, over 5,000 volunteers and more than 350 staff.

The showreel highlights more than half a century of the VICSES journey, depicting Civil Defence’s humble beginnings, the growth of VICSES into a major emergency service provider and the largest provider of road crash rescue in Australia, and the outstanding work of volunteers in supporting their communities throughout.

As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary (Golden Jubilee), we want to thank each and every one of our volunteers over the years for their incredible dedication, hard work and commitment to the service, and most of all Victorian communities.
